Ali Hashem

Researcher

I’m a journalist/ researcher whose work focuses mainly on Iran’s foreign policy. My MA thesis studied the impact of digital diplomacy during the nuclear talks in changing the image of Iran in the west.

Currently, I’m researching the Islamic Republic’s strategic narrative with respect to Iran and allies’ involvement in the Syrian crisis.

Another subject I’ve been working on is the disappearance of Iranian/Lebanese Imam Mousa Sadr.

Over the past 15 years I’ve been covering the changing dynamics of regional politics, came close to the Arab spring as a reporter from Libya, Egypt, and Syria, and the fight against ISIS from Iraq. My investigation on IS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi made an important reference for several books and papers on the subject.

I look forward to blending my field experience with the depth and sobriety of academia to produce some good work.
